Smart Energy Kit

Smart Energy Kit.

How do I figure out the energy used for my appliances and then save money?
http://www.smarthomeusa.com/ShopByManufacturer/SmartHomeUSA/Item/SMART-E...

It's Easy you can start saving energy in three easy steps!

1. Easily install the Power Cost Monitor to start getting real time power usage statistics with the wireless receiver. Installation is a snap. All you have to do is slide that Power Cost Monitors wireless transmitter over your power meter and lineup its sensor arm with your meters spinning disk or optical sensor. After you sync the the transmitter and receiver together you will start getting real-time power usage. You can also enter in your electric bills rate and now you will be able to see how much money you are spending to power your home. Now that you know how much electricity your home is using what can you do about it?

2. After you know how much power you are using at any given moment it's time to isolate your power hungry devices with the Kill-A-Watt. Just plug the Kill-A-Watt into an electrical outlet and then plug anything like your television, computer or household appliance like a microwave into the Kill-A-Watt to get a local real time reading on how much that one device uses both on and in the off/standby position.

3. Start Saving! After finding out what devices in your entertainment center or computer workstation are costing you install a SmartStrip to automatically turn your extra peripherals on our off with your TV or computer. Now how does the Smartstrip work? For an entertainment center, you use your Kill-A-Watt to find out how much electricity your TV or Audio/Surround receiver uses in the standby mode. After you find out what device is power hungry, plug the other one into the "Control" outlet of the Smartstrip. Now plug your cable or satellite box into the the "Always Hot" outlets so they can update their schedules and if you have a DVR it will still automatically record. Now you can plug any other device like a DVD player, VCR, sub woofer, or any other equipment into the switched outlets. Now whenever you turn on or off the control device the Smartstrip will turn on or off the switched outlets saving vampire power on those devices.

With a PC the concept is the same. You plug your desktop computer into the control outlet and put your other devices like your monitor, printer, scanner or speakers into the switched outlets so they turn off with your computer. There are also always on outlets that you can plug things like a clock radio, lamp, modem/router or external hard drive and have them work when ever you need them.

Now that you are empowered with the knowledge of how much electricity you are using at anytime there are other steps you can take to help lower your electric bill.

Occupancy Sensors - Replace your existing light switch with one that will automatically turn off after you leave the room.
