Thought you might like to know that I bought a Kilowatt Power Cost Monitor to help my family learn what the costs were for the electrical things they leave on but aren't using. I was pleased to learn how easy it was to install, it only took us a few minutes :)

The first to get checked was one of our 2 PCs that we tend to leave on 24/7. These are modest PCs with CRT monitors. I left one on for 64 hours and 44 minutes and we learned from the Kilowatt that this PC used 6.41 kwh of electricity for a total of $1.17 based at our utility rate which is listed on our electric bill.

So that is $.42/day or $3.00/week or $12.85/month or $156. per year. We have 2 PCs so this is $312 we are spending. We plan to buy two SmartStrips and hope to save at least $100. per year.

We are now looking at other savings by automating our house security lighting.
